Deryn Cowdy was born in London and grew up in a family of artists. She enjoyed painting and sculpture from an early age, and studied Fine Art at Bath Academy of Art from where she obtained her degree in fine art. After which she spent several years as a scenic painter in London, painting canvas backdrops for theatre and photographic studios. Taking up a wonderful offer to work with a team of conservators, Deryn also became involved with restoring painted finishes for the National Trust, where she learned about and grew to love historical ornament and technique which is evident in her early work. www.deryncowdy,com
